Due to operating system compatibility difficulties, META-owned platform WhatsApp has revealed that the app would cease to function on a total of 49 handsets this year.
According to a statement from the platform’s proprietors, the change would have an impact on millions of users globally because they won’t be able to upgrade after December 31.
Some Huawei, LG, and Samsung phone models are among those with older versions that can no longer use WhatsApp.
When the deadline passes, owners of the impacted phones will receive messages on their phones informing them that they would no longer be able to use Whatsapp.
According to a statement WhatsApp released regarding the development, “We routinely stop supporting outdated operating systems to direct our resources to maintaining the current ones in order to keep up with the latest technological advancements.
“If we stop supporting your operating system, you’ll be notified and reminded a few times to upgrade your device to continue using WhatsApp.“Devices and software change often, so we regularly review what operating systems we support and make updates.
“These devices also might not have the latest security updates, or might lack the functionality required to run WhatsApp.”
“To choose what to stop supporting, every year we, like other technology companies, look at which devices and software are the oldest and have the fewest number of people still using them.”
