The bodies of a couple who were murdered by their captors despite having paid a ransom have been buried.
The couple, Mr. Emmanuel Chukwuemeka, 36, and Mrs. Chinwendu Chukwuemeka, 30, were abducted and killed by perpetrators who have not yet been named.
On Thursday, they were laid to rest in their hometown of Isiekwulu, Ukpo, in the Anambra State local government district of Dunukofia.
The entire neighborhood was in sadness following their funeral.
The husband and wife were reportedly abducted as they were making their way home from an event at the Holy Ghost Adoration, Uke, in the Idemili North LGA.
The kidnappers left the couple’s four-month-old infant in the car while they were being driven away, according to a Punch article.
A source claimed that after the family paid the kidnappers N5 million, the thugs sought another N2.5 million, which took the family some time to raise because they had to sell some of their land.
After receiving the full ransom, the kidnappers reportedly turned off their phones.
The couple’s bodies were discovered near the Uke-Nnobi Road about two months later by the neighborhood.
According to reports, the bodies were bound.
