In Osun State, some candidates for the House of Assembly running on the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) platform have declared plans to conduct a massive demonstration in support of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the APC’s presidential candidate.
By doing this, Tinubu hopes to fulfill his objective of leading Nigeria in 2023.
Additionally, the candidates have started a door-to-door campaign to solicit support for Tinubu, whom they characterized as the harbinger of hope for Nigerians.
In September, four NNPP candidates for the National Assembly switched their support from Rabiu Kwankwaso to Bola Tinubu.
One of the main reasons the candidates quit NNPP was their discontent with the party’s national leadership and the party stakeholders’ failure to operate in accordance with the principles of justice, legality, and democratic party management.
Speaking on behalf of the party’s House of Assembly candidates in Osogbo yesterday, Afolabi Muideen Abayomi said they had since realized that the party’s current structure in Osun State lacked the vision of the new Nigeria that the people of the country aspired to.
In less than two months before the general election, he emphasized that there had been absolutely no planning done to promote their presidential, National Assembly, and House of Assembly candidates to the state’s citizens.
Abayomi stated that during their door-to-door campaign, they learned that the Osun people are so set on having Tinubu as their president that they may consider canvassing for any other candidates to be an exercise in futility, which is why they decided to continue with Tinubu.
“Less than 2 months to the 2023 polls, NNPP has not been campaigning for the presidential candidate of the party, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, and other candidates contesting the poll in Osun. We can’t wait any longer.”
The majority of the state will be persuaded to support the APC candidates at a big event for Tinubu, he added, which would be organized in conjunction with nine other National Assembly candidates who had previously endorsed Kwankwaso.
Both the candidates for national and state assemblies paid tribute to, “Secretary, Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council, Hon. James Abiodun Faleke, for always giving us listening ears and for embracing us, having discovered our ability to deliver Osun for Tinubu.”
