The agreement between Liverpool and Dutch attacker Cody Gakpo has been verified by PSV Eindhoven, a Dutch team.
The 23-year-old Cody Gakpo had a great World Cup in Qatar, helping the Netherlands get to the quarterfinals while scoring three goals himself.
Liverpool will reportedly pay the winger between 40 and 50 million euros to join the Merseyside club in January.
According to PSV, Gakpo will travel to England to complete the transfer, which they also said would be a record transfer for them.
Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota, two attackers, are expected to miss a lot of time due to injury, therefore Liverpool made the move.
Gakpo has previously been strongly associated with Manchester United. Unfortunately, Liverpool has snatched the deal away from Manchester’s Red side.
According to a PSV Eindhoven statement: “The PSV management completed the negotiations on Boxing Day and gave Gakpo permission to travel to England.”
Gakpo has been in outstanding form this season for PSV with nine goals and 12 assists in 14 league appearances.
Additionally, he managed three goals and two assists in five Europa League outings.
In each of his country’s World Cup group games against Senegal, Ecuador, and Qatar, he scored goals.
Cody Gakpo is anticipated to energize Liverpool’s assault in January and aid the team’s pursuit of a top-four finish. Notably, Liverpool overcame Aston Villa 3-1 on Monday to move up to sixth place in the Premier League.
