The midfielder for Manchester City, Kevin De Bruyne, thinks that Erling Haaland can surpass Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in terms of total career goals.
Erling Haaland, who is only 22 years old, has made 224 appearances in all competitions and has 180 goals in his career.
Keep in mind that 37-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo has scored 801 goals in 1,095 appearances across all competitions, both for club and country. In contrast, Lionel Messi, 35, the record holder for seven Ballon d’Or awards, has 791 goals in 1002 appearances across all competitions for club and country.
De Bruyne emphasized that Erling Haaland can still score up to 700 goals in his career before the Wednesday, December 28 Premier League match between Manchester City and Leeds United, which is set to begin at 21:00.
“He already has about 200 goals, so he can probably go to 600, 700, or 800 if he stays fit and does the things he does,” the Belgian said. “Erling is a top-level striker.”
Haaland has had an outstanding debut season since joining Manchester City last summer, scoring 24 goals in 19 games.
Currently, Haaland’s health will be important to City’s season, and the team’s medical staff will be watching his workload attentively. Manager Pep Guardiola took him off the field early in both the friendly victory over Girona and the Carabao Cup victory over Liverpool.
In the following days, when World Cup champion Julian Alvarez of Argentina returns to Manchester City, Haaland might be forced to play up front alongside the Argentine Forward.
Alvarez, 22, a forward for Manchester City, has contributed two assists and seven goals in 20 games played across all competitions since joining the club last summer.
