The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has advised Nigerians to be on the lookout for dust-haze weather conditions between Monday and Wednesday across the nation.
The agency predicts that starting on Monday, a dense dust haze over the northern region would be present over the forecast period, with horizontal visibility of less than or equal to 1000m.
According to Naija News, NiMet forecasted that throughout the forecast period, areas of Niger could have horizontal visibility of less than or equal to 1000 meters due to moderate dust haze, with a horizontal visibility range of 2 to 5 kilometers across the North Central region.
During the anticipated period, the northern region was covered in a dense dust haze on Tuesday with a horizontal visibility of less than or equal to 1000 meters.
it said “Moderate dust-haze condition with horizontal visibility range of 2km to 5 km is anticipated over the Inland cities of the South during the forecast period.
“Hazy atmosphere with intervals of sunshine is anticipated over the coastal cities of the South during the forecast period.”
The agency also forecast a moderate dust haze over the northern half of the country, with potential for reduced horizontal visibility to 1,000 meters or less across sections of Niger, Benue, Kwara, and the Federal Capital Territory.
NiMet added “Moderate dust-haze condition with horizontal visibility range of 2km to 5 km is expected over the Inland cities of the South during the forecast period.
“Hazy atmosphere with spell of sunshine are anticipated over the coastal cities of the South during the forecast period.”
According to the forecast, there would be a heavy dust haze on Wednesday with a horizontal visibility of no more than 1,000 meters over the northern region.
“Moderate dust-haze with horizontal visibility range of 2km to 5km is anticipated over the North Central region with prospects of reduced horizontal visibility to 1, 000m or less over parts Niger, Benue, Kwara and Nasarawa state.
“Moderate fust-haze condition with horizontal visibility range of 2km to 5 km is expected over the Inland cities of the South during the forecast period.
”Sunny and hazy conditions are expected over coastal cities of the South during the forecast period.
“Public are advised to take necessary precautions due to dust particles presently in suspension over the atmosphere.
”Individuals with respiratory ailments are to protect themselves as the current dusty weather condition is adverse to their health,”
As a result, it encouraged Nigerians to keep their kids dressed warmly at night because of the anticipated chilly weather.
Additionally, the agency advised all airline operators to regularly request weather information from its office for efficient planning in their operations.
