Anita and Paul Okoye’s divorce was earlier approved by the Abuja High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Maitama.
As Paul Okoye, better known as Rudeboy, had not been served, he initially didn’t take the news seriously.
Actually, when the news first surfaced in July, the Okoye brothers’ barrister counsel stated that neither his business nor his client had been served with divorce papers.
Anita Okoye was found to have disregarded the advice of her associates, who allegedly warned her that a media leak may persuade a reserved Paul Okoye (Rudeboy) to demand a financial settlement, and published the divorce documents to hired influencers.
In August 2022, she served Paul with the divorce papers after trying in vain to persuade him to sit down and negotiate.
Anita Okoye gave a list of her top five reasons for divorcing her husband, including infidelity, a phony separation, parental neglect, fraud, and difficult circumstances. She therefore demanded several of her husband’s luxury homes as well as a payment of $20,000 per month.
Anita claimed in her divorce petition, which was signed by her attorney Ojonimi Akpe and Okutepa J.S. at an Abuja High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, that she paid N10 million as a condition of an agreement with her husband to be given space at the mall he had just finished in Lekki Phase, Lagos.
Anita continued by claiming that Paul Okoye had conned her out of a plan to build a mall that they would have shared ownership of.
Anita was asked to show evidence of her contribution to her husband’s riches in a counter-affidavit that the respondent’s lawyer submitted, but she was unable to do so. Furthermore, it was asserted that as the trial progressed, it became clear that Anita—who participated in court sessions via Zoom the entire time—was unable to support all of the assertions she made in her petition to the court.
She consequently decided to take a different path, giving up all of her claims in favor of settling.
The court, in its wisdom, only granted the parties shared custody of the children in its ruling on the subject on October 20, 2022. But the petitioner didn’t get any money in the shape of alimony or a settlement.
Their union produced three children: Nathan and Nadia, twins, were born in 2017, and Andre was born in 2013.
