Doyin Okupe, the former Director-General (DG) of the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Council, claimed that after being found guilty by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, his enemies had injured him (EFCC).
According to a report from Information Nigeria published on Tuesday, Okupe resigned from his post as the organization’s director general after being found guilty of 26 counts of money laundering by the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Later, Okupe settled all of the charges for a N13 million fine to avoid receiving a two-year prison sentence.
He stated in his letter of resignation that he was resigning in order to prevent his personal interests from detracting from Obi’s and the Labour Party’s campaigns.
The leader of the Labour Party claimed that some were responsible for his problems in a tweet on Thursday.
He asserted that he would return stronger and added that the Labour Party will win the following year.
The tweet read:
“Dear Obidients. Many are the afflictions of the righteous but God delivers him from them all. I have been wounded on the frontlines. By God’s Grace, I will heal quickly and resume at the rear guard.
“Our mission to Aso Rock in 2023 is irreversible and unstoppable, God being our helper.”
Nigerians like Reno Omokri accused the former governor of Anambra State of leading a mafia organization rather than a political campaign.
According to him, Okupe’s conviction demonstrated that the party was not ready to transform Nigeria.
Since then, Nigerians have reacted to the news in a variety of ways, with some decrying his role in money laundering and others praising his resignation.
