Ajakaiye Toyin was given a death by hanging sentence by Justice Olukayode Ogundana of an Ekiti State High Court for the murder of Afe Omonyi, a commercial motorcycle rider and okada driver, on August 23, 2018, along the Agbado/Ode Ekiti route.
According to court documents, the Okada driver transported the convict on that fatal day along the Ode-Ekiti road from Agbado-Ekiti to his farm for a charge of #150.00.
As soon as he arrived at the farm, the inmate gave the Okada guy #200.00 and wanted N100.00 in change. The Okada man refused and gave him N50.00 in change.
After a battle, the prisoner tied a rope around the Okada guy’s neck to strangle him to death. He then dug a little hole and buried the deceased man.
Julius Ajibare, Director of Public Prosecutions, who prosecuted the case on behalf of the State, called 4 witnesses and presented 7 exhibits in an effort to establish his case beyond a reasonable doubt.
The defendant’s attorney was Omoniyi Idowu.
