Didier Deschamps, the head coach of France, has stated that Kylian Mbappe was sad after France lost the 2022 World Cup final because his efforts were insufficient to lift the cup.
Mbappe was perhaps the finest player at the Lusail Stadium on Sunday night as his hat-trick propelled Argentina to victory, even if Messi garnered most of the attention.
The PSG attacker quickly netted a brace to tie the score at two and force extra time.
The 23-year-old went on to become the first player since Geoff Hurst for England in 1966 to score a hat-trick in the World Cup final.
“Kylian has really left his mark on this final,” Deschamps said.
“But unfortunately he didn’t leave it in the way he would have liked and that’s why he was so disappointed at the end of the match like all of the players.”
