In around 15 of the federation’s states, the Federal Government has announced that construction has started on renovating police stations and barracks.
In Abuja, the announcement was made by the Minister of Police Affairs, Muhammad Dingyadi, as part of the “PMB Administration Scorecard Series (2015-2023)” hosted by the Ministry of Information.
The minister claims that the following states have begun the rehabilitation process: Kebbi, Edo, Borno, Yobe, Gombe, Bauchi, Plateau, Abia, Bayelsa, Nasarawa, Niger, Sokoto, Ogun, Lagos, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
He said that the programme, which is approximately N5 billion, intends to improve operations intelligence and ICT-based equipment to stop the rise in crime in the nation.
Additionally, Dingyadi revealed that the government had given the go-ahead for the installation of intelligence apparatus in the Force headquarters as well as the Zone 1 and Zone 2 headquarters.
The minister emphasized that in addition to other things, the police have enhanced training facility amenities, built hospitals and health facilities, outfitted the FCT Command, restored the Detective College in Enugu, and established the Cyber Crime Control Centre.
Dingyadi said “The ‘NPF Rescue Me’, an application for emergency response; NPF Crime and Incident Database Centre; the Interpol Cybercrime Reporting platform at incb.npf.gov.ng is available 24/7 for the reportage of cybercrime-related complaints.
“Offences provided for by the Cybercrime Act, of 2015 include the production and distribution of child pornography.
“The Interpol cybercrime unit is empowered to mitigate possible cyber-attacks.”
