Adeyemi Babatunde, a 26-year-old man, is wanted by police for allegedly killing Obafunsho Ismail, a driver, in a minor accident.
On December 20, 2022, just over two weeks after he had allegedly assaulted the driver, age 46, the culprit was apprehended.
Abimbola Oyeyemi, the public relations officer for the Ogun State Police, stated that the incident took place on December 8, 2022, at around 8:00 pm, when the suspect, who was driving a Lexus jeep with a customized number plate reading “Olu of Oya,” struck the deceased’s car from behind and broke its rear light.
According to reports, the deceased driver got out of his car and asked the suspect to get off so they could inspect the damage and come up with a fix.
According to Oyeyemi, the suspect was attempting to flee after refusing to get out of his own car.
He claimed that the deceased was irritated by this and asked that the suspect come down; as a result, he sat on the suspect’s car’s hood to keep him from escaping.
Adeyemi Babatunde, the suspect, later arrived and warned the deceased to leave the car’s bonnet if he didn’t want to waste his life. He then returned to the vehicle and accelerated out of the parking lot.
The deceased fell off the car as a result of his action, and the car ran him over. Oyeyemi claimed that the suspect reportedly ran over the deceased twice in order to make sure he had passed away.
The guy fled with his car after finishing the deed, according to a police spokesperson.
He was eventually located at his father’s home in Abeokuta’s Kemta, Idi-Aba neighborhood, where he was apprehended on December 20 by officers from the State Motor Traffic Division along with the stolen car.
The suspect has been moved to the State CIID’s homicide division for further investigation and prosecution, according Lanre Bankole, the commissioner of police in Ogun.
