President Major General Muhammadu Buhari has sent a supplement to the 2023 Appropriations Bill to the National Assembly (retired).
The cover letter for the bill was read aloud to the members of the House of Representatives on Wednesday by Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila.
Buhari stated in the cover letter that the additional N819,536,937,813 request for the following year was required due to the damage that floods caused to road and farming infrastructure.
The President claimed that Nigeria has just seen “the greatest flood incidents in recent history, which has caused significant destruction of farmlands,” adding that the nation now faces a food security threat.
He emphasized that “many roads and bridges” in all 36 of the nation’s states were impacted by the floods.
About 24 hours before the 2023 Appropriations Bill was passed, the supplemental budget reached the federal parliament.
Only on Tuesday did the president send the Finance Bill 2023 to the National Assembly.
