Following the attack on the governor’s convoy in the state’s Wamakko Local Government Area on Sunday, chaos erupted in Sokoto State.
When Tambuwal was leading the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign rally in Silame and Wamakko local councils, hoodlums ambushed his convoy.
According to reports, the thugs attacked the governor’s convoy as it was returning from the third leg of the PDP’s statewide election campaign.
The front windscreen of the official SUV belonging to the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity was smashed by the attackers, and the rear windscreen of the official SUV belonging to the Governor’s Permanent Secretary (Protocol) was also damaged.
The stone narrowly missed Mallam Abu Shekara, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Public Affairs, but glass shards from the broken door screen rained down on his face.
Tambuwal, his deputy Manir Muhammad Dan Iya, the PDP state governorship candidate Saidu Umar, the deputy governorship candidate Sagiru Bafarawa, the visiting Kebbi State PDP governorship candidate General Aminu Bande (retd), and other PDP top-ranking members of the state who were in the convoy were unharmed.
The governor only had brief discussions with party leaders, according to a Tambuwal aide who talked to The Punch under the condition of anonymity but corroborated the attack.
