Argentina captain Lionel Messi said that his team’s victory over France in the 2022 FIFA World Cup final in Qatar was due to their ability to fight “together and were united” throughout the contest.
After 120 minutes at Lusail Stadium on Sunday, Argentina and France tied 3-3 thanks to goals from Lionel Messi twice, Angel di Maria once, and Kylian Mbappe three times.
Argentina eventually defeated France 4-2 in a shootout.
Messi also stated in a post on his Instagram page that the success of Lionel Scalon’s team comes before the merits of any particular player.
He wrote: “So many times I dreamed it, so much I wanted it that I still don’t fall, I can’t believe it……
“Thank you so much to my family, to all who support me and also to all who believed in us. We prove once again that Argentinians, when we fight together and united we are able to achieve what we aim.
“The merit of this group, which is above individuals, is the strength of all fighting for the same dream that was also the one of all Argentinians… We did it!!!”
