Matheus Cunha, a forward for Atletico Madrid, will sign a temporary loan agreement with Wolverhampton Wanderers on January 1.
Matheus Cunha, a 23-year-old Brazilian attacker, is anticipated to join Wolves on loan in January and play there till the conclusion of the 2022–2023 campaign.
Cunha will then sign a long-term contract with the Premier League team, which may be worth up to 40 million euros. He will remain at the club for four years under the permanent contract.
Cunha is Wolves’ first acquisition since Julen Lopetegui, who led Sevilla from 2019 to 2022, took over as the team’s manager on November 5, 2022.
Cunha stated this after joining the Premier League team:
“I’m really excited to be part of this group and to be part of this club – it’s a big club.”
“I’m excited to play in the Premier League, to play in Wolverhampton, and I think the most important point is that I’m happy like a kid,” added Cunha.
“[Lopetegui’s] a big coach, he has a big mentality. He told me about Wolverhampton having a big project and I believe in it a lot, and I believe in him.”
With the Swiss club Sion, Matheus Cunha made his professional debut in 2017. Prior to joining Spanish club Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2021, he later played for German clubs RB Leipzig and Hertha Berlin. He scored seven goals in 54 games for Atletico Madrid.
