MultiChoice Nigeria Limited, the parent company of DStv, has chosen to disregard an order from the Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal (CCPT) in Abuja, instructing it not to raise subscription rates for its DStv and GOtv packages.
Despite the tribunal’s directive to halt the planned price hike, MultiChoice went ahead and implemented the increased fees on Wednesday, May 1, causing frustration among its numerous subscribers.
The tribunal had initially issued an injunction on Monday, preventing MultiChoice Nigeria from raising subscription prices, which were scheduled to go into effect in May.
Saratu Shafii, the presiding officer, emphasized the tribunal’s dedication to ensuring MultiChoice’s compliance with its rulings. Nonetheless, customers attempting to renew their subscriptions on May 1st encountered the updated pricing on the company’s website, indicating MultiChoice’s decision to proceed with the rate increase.
